Phnom Penh City Tour

After breakfast, you’ll start to visit the Victory Monument, and the terracotta red National Museum also called Musee des Beaux-Arts. A French archaeologist and painter, Georges Groslier, designed it in Khmer style in 1917. The museum contains a collection of Khmer art – notably sculptures – from throughout the ages. Visit the nearby Royal Palace, built by King Norodom in 1866 on the site of the old town, and the Silver Pagoda. Located within the grounds of the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda is so named because of its floor, which is made up of 5000 silver tiles. The treasures found inside include a solid gold Buddha encrusted and weighing 90 kilograms and a small 17th-century emerald and baccarat crystal Buddha.

Back to the city for the Toul Tom Pong Market (Russian Market) is the city’s best place to shop for art objects, including textiles, antiques, wood and marble carvings, ritual objects and old Indochinese coins.

End the afternoon with the visit of the Wat Phnom Temple, Phnom Penh’s namesake, from where you can enjoy views over the tree-lined avenues of the city during sunset.

Phnom Penh – Fly to Siem Reap

In the morning, after breakfast, we head out of Modern City to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center which is well worth a visit if your family are animal lovers. Occupying a vast area of 6,000 acres south of the capital, this wildlife sanctuary focuses on rescue, rehabilitation, care and release of wildlife and is an ideal place to see over 1,200 Cambodian animals, including crocodiles, deer, elephants, gibbons, leopards, lions, tigers, sun bears, ginormous pythons, birds etc. Most of these creatures were rescued from poachers and traffickers, and are kept in excellent, spacious enclosures where they are allowed to roam free. They will be well cared for here at the reserve until they recover when they will be released back into the wild. The center has been receiving help from Wildlife Alliances, Free the Bears and other international wildlife NGOs to improve and expand the enclosures over the years.

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Siem Reap.

Upon arrival at Siem Reap airport, you’ll be met and transferred to the hotel for check-in.

Siem Reap - Angkor Temple Discovery

At 4.45am, you may wish to wake up early and set out for Angkor Wat, in front of the water lily pond, enjoying the temple’s reflection and the sunrise over the complex. Then, we start we start to explore the intricately carved remains of Angkor Wat, one of the world’s most impressive temple sites. The temple still displays hundreds of fine carvings of Apsara and scenes from Hindu mythology. The Khmer constructed the temple between the 9th and 13th Centuries. Strolling around the massive hallways, you will find many small shrines still in use by the Cambodians. Back to the hotel for breakfast.

Options:
– If you wish to sleep in and avoid waking up at 4:45 am, you can start your day later in the morning
– You can have your breakfast at the hotel before heading out for the sunrise if you prefer

In the afternoon, you head 30km north to visit the captivating and beautiful temple of Banteay Srei or ‘Fortress of the Women’. The journey allows you to experience the beautiful Cambodian countryside as you pass through small typical villages. Banteay Srei is the birthplace of Khmer classical style architecture. One of the smallest temples in the region, Banteay Srey is also one of the most beautiful, showcasing the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings in all Khmer architecture. Also, pay a visit to the Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre (BBC) which is one of the most visited tourist spots in the country, with the largest butterfly exhibition in Southeast Asia.

Siem Reap - Further Discovery

After leisurely breakfast, we drive to visit the walled city of Angkor Thom, the royal city itself, covering four square miles and located in the complex’s geographic center. The Bayon is an awesome sight. At first glance, the complex seems a shapeless mass of stone. Suddenly, further scrutiny reveals a face, enigmatic and silent, watching with half-closed eyes. Soon, another face is made out, and another, and still yet another, until they are all around – silent, heavy, and impressive, starting from a primitive remote past. We then go on to the surroundings of the complex including the Baphou, Elephant Terraces, King’s Terrace and Royal Palace area.

Then, continue to explore the picturesque Ta Prohm, which has nearly disappeared into the jungle and remains overgrown, an oddly haunting and exotic scene. The magnificent roots of a tree, pushing between the huge stone blocks of the temple in a sort of embrace, evoke feelings that you will remember forever.

Early in the evening, you will be taken by Tuk Tuk on an openly aired tour through the suburban streets of Siem Reap, and afterward, attend blessing ceremony by Buddhist monks for happiness, prosperity, and safety for your journey.

Tonight the tour guide will see you again and transfer you to see the remarkable Phare Circus troupe perform a live show that blends circus arts with riveting theater, dance and music to tell uniquely Cambodian stories — historical, folk and modern.

Siem Reap – Flight Luang Prabang

In the morning, drive about 45 minutes into the countryside near Siem Reap, stopping en route to visit a local village, arriving at a boat quay for a 1½ hour ride on Tonle Sap Lake, also known as the Great Lake of Cambodia, where we will see many communities on floating houses and boats, including schools, markets, police stations, children playing and swimming, and fresh water aquariums with different fish species displayed – a wonderful example of floating village life.

Also, an ox cart tour is a safe journey in Cambodian village bear by the rural area. Take Ox-cart riding for 30-40 minutes around a typical village to enjoy the natural beauty of Cambodia countryside. You will also stop along the road to take photos of real Cambodian life and houses on stilt.

Then, you’ll be met and transferred to the airport for the flight to Luang Prabang. On arrival at the Luang Prabang airport, you will be met and transferred to check in the hotel.

"10 out of 10!"

Just back from a fantastic 2 weeks in Cambodia & Vietnam, all organised by the fantastic Kata Tran in Indochina Pioneer. Cannot recommend them highly enough. They gave us great options from which to choose in terms of places to visit, hotels to stay in, tours to take, etc. And, they were very flexible regarding any changes we wanted to make. All guides were great – all locals with great English and very knowledgeable. 10 out of 10!

"Amazing Vietnam private tour"

This is the 1st time we’ve been to Vietnam and we absolutely love it.
Big thanks to Kata (our tour organiser), who has been very accommodating to our requests. The tour was well organised and everything flowed smoothly.
We stayed in Hanoi (2 nights), Halong Bay (1 night) and Hoi an (2 nights), wished we could have stayed longer. Great hotels with delicious breakfast, excellent halong bay cruise and friendly tour guides (Tony from Hanoi and Snow from Danang) and drivers.
Big thumps up to Indochina Pioneer.

"Wonderful stress free tour of Vietnam"

We had such a great holiday with Indochina Pioneer. The whole trip was so much fun and we saw and experienced so many beautiful things. Our guides were great Viet in Hanoi was superb – he spoke and understood English really well and took us to some different local places as we had discussed with him Yao in Sapa also spoke and understood good English and was really helpful on the trek
Banh in Hoi An / Hue had good English and was very informative
Sam in Ho Chi Minh had average English but he is so knowledgeable, helpful and easy to be with.
Pascal in Cambodia was really great and took us to some great locations for different photo opportunities

The hotels were also very good.

Boss Legend Hanoi – great
Sapa – rooms were a bit cold and we had to request a heater but much better the second night
Halong Bay – a fantastic trip would have loved to have stayed for longer!
Hoi An – lovely modern hotel – superb location
Hue – originally we declined a room on the 9th floor which we had been told would be noisy and were given a room on floor 6 – this was dark and we were moved the next day to a balcony room on floor 8 which was perfect.
Ho Chi Minh – lovely hotel and location
Siem Reap – lovely hotel and pool area

Overall everything Indochina Pioneer had booked for us went really smoothly and made our trip so enjoyable

We have already passed your details on to several friends back in the UK who are also contemplating a trip to Vietnam

I hope we will be able to use ICP services again on our future trips to Myanmar, Laos and China

"Enjoy the Indochina Pioneer Experience"

I have used this company twice to book a trip to Viet Nam and a 2nd trip to Viet Nam and Cambodia.
I have also recommended this company to many local friends. I was so happy and pleased with meeting my agent Kata Tran. She is wonderful person, extremely organized and so trustworthy. All of the recommendations that I made to friends were also thrilled with Kata’s service and the professionalism of Indochina Pioneer.
Not only do they provide competitive prices but they have private drivers and guides who are locals. As a result, tourists get a local perspective from very well trained professional guides. The accommodations, food and cars were top notch. Please don’t miss the Indochina Pioneer experience you will not be disappointed.

"Our fantastic Vietnam trip with Indochina Pioneer"

A couple of our close friends, my wife and I were planning to visit Vietnam for a while, but were not sure if we should do this on our own, or to use one of the travel agencies in Vietnam. A month or two later, a friend of my wife mentioned that she has just come back from Vietnam, used Indochina Pioneer to advise her on the itinerary and get trip organized. She told us she was totally impressed with them. Before contacting Nam Duong, we did some research and were fully impressed, as Indochina Pioneer’s reviews were outstanding. To make long story short, we asked Nam to prepare the itinerary for a two weeks tour of Vietnam. The response was prompt, we loved Nam’s proposal and two weeks later we were on our way.
Everything from the pickup at the airport, hotel choice, vehicles and especially the team of local guides were superb! We spent two weeks sightseeing and learning the history of Vietnam while visiting Saigon and Mekong delta, Hue, Hoi An, Danang, Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. We took millions of pictures and left with unforgettable memories of wonderful people we met during our trip and are grateful to Nam Duong and his team for getting this organized. We strongly recommend Indochina Pioneer. They did absolutely superb job. Thank you, Nam and your team!

"Family Fun in Thailand"

Amazing Vietnam private tour
We stayed in Bangkok (3 Nights), Chiang Rai (1 Night), Chiang Mai (3 Nights) and had a guide the entire trip from the airport for pick up in Bangkok to the airport on departure in Chiang Mai. The tour was very well put together and Lam with Indochina Pioneer was more than accommodating to our changes for what probably seemed like a million back and forth emails. Aurora (our guide in Bangkok) was absolutely amazing, not only for us, but also our children (3 and 7). everything we mentioned she made sure we did or at least knew how to do it when we were done for the day with our tour. Our guide in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai (Tree) was also amazing in showing us more than we could have imagined in Northern Thailand.

"The tour was excellent"

We asked Lam at Indochina Pioneer to arrange a tour for 2 couples that would include a week in Cambodia, a week in Laos and 2 weeks in the northern part of Vietnam. We had done the southern part of Vietnam 2 years ago. We were not disappointed.
The tour was excellent, we had a private mini bus with driver and an English speaking guide, that was from each area we visited. All flights, pickup / drop off at of each the airports within these countries was arranged by our tour representative, as well as hotels and any admission to tourist sites.
The tours were very impressive, we got to see the so many great attractions from amazing ancient heritage sites to country and mountain vistas.
There were no hiccups in our time touring these countries, everything flowed smoothly, and we were in control of our time. If we had seen enough temples for that day then we would cut it short and pick something else to see or just call it a day. The guide and drivers were very flexible to meet our needs.
We have passed on Lam’s name and Indochina Pioneer contact data to several friends, and 1 couple has used them recently to visit Thailand and Vietnam and after talking with them they were very impressed with the service.
I am sure we will be using Lam again in the future.

"It truly was an amazing experience"

For my husband’ birthday he wanted a trip to Vietnam. From north to south, Indochina Pioneer took care of everything. We had wonderful tour guides, and the trip kept getting better, and better. Something we couldn’t imagine, as each destination was amazing. Our hotels were great, food was awesome, and the culture we received was something we will never forget. Our tour guides, Mr. Tony in Ha Noi, Ms. Lindh in Hoi An, and Mr. Som in Ho Chi Minh City, were the best! I cannot imagine seeing and doing all we did without their guidance. It truly was an amazing experience!

"Exceeded expectations!!"

We used Indochina Pioneers to plan our trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Lam did a spectacular job! We used his itinerary as a framework and then upgraded all of the hotels, which, while very very nice, were still inexpensive. Everything Lam arranged went flawlessly. The drivers were always on time and so courteous. They were flexible if and when we wanted to adjust the schedule, such as stopping at a local food market or going back to the hotel for a rest. We really enjoyed our guides as well. We had the pleasure of meeting Viet in Hanoi. He was a blast and treated us to amazing local foods and history. He wasn’t afraid to discuss local politics or opinions which was fascinating. In Ho Chi Min and the Mekong Delta we thoroughly enjoyed Lucy. She gave us insight into women and family issues as well as history and cultural awareness. In Hoi An we enjoyed Lam. He was very flexible and knowledgeable about history. The food tours were amazing and we tasted some culinary delights we never would have tried without the guidance of our guides. The beach resort was gorgeous and the water warm and clean. We loved the bike ride to the agricultural district where we were able to work the fields. The restaurant we stopped at was probably our favorite. The chef was willing to talk with us at length and share recipes.
Cambodia was an unexpected pleasure as well. I fell in love with Cambodia. The kindness of the people and the temple treasures were beyond words. We fell in love with these counties because we had the privilege to offer an ear to listen to their life stories. How grateful we were that they were willing to share. Such resilience and strength. Our guide told us to call him “Lucky”. He was fabulous too! Easy going and flexible!!
Our last stop was in Thailand. Here we met our guide Micky. He was really fun. We followed the itinerary which we thought would be too much but Micky kept a nice pace and continually fed us local delights such as mango sticky rice! Everything was great.
The only thing we may have done differently was to take a boat from the Mekong delta to Cambodia to avoid a long drive back to Danang. Plus it would have been interesting to tour via boat. Overall the trip was perfect. Highly recommend Lam. We will use him again for other trips!!
