My husband and I did a tour to Vietnam and Cambodia with Indochina Pioneer year and had a great time on both. Neither trip was perfect and our neither were our guides. They outdid themselves with some things and were a bit lax on others so totally human. Overall, the positive far outweighed any negatives although a couple of times were annoying we were all over it in a very short time. Everyone was great. DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Saigon – Embarkation (L, D)
Meet in Sofitel Plaza Saigon Hotel to register for cruise and transfer to Saigon Port. We then board the luxurious vessel where refreshing iced mineral water and cold towels will be provided. Enjoy a tasty buffet lunch at onboard Mekong restaurant before checking into our cabins. The captain will commence port formalities and later we adjourn to the Saigon Lounge for briefing. Tonight we will enjoy the first dinner on board with pianist performance in Saigon Lounge.

Day 2: Cai Be Floating Market (B, L, D)

Morning we rise to the sounds of Mekong, we enjoy a buffet breakfast, followed by a seminar on The Life on Mekong River. In the afternoon, we take a small river boat to visit Cai Be floating market vendors and explore the hidden treasures through the canals before going ashore to visit traditional candy making factory and rice paper mills. Return to our boat and tonight we enjoy Mekong Folk Dances followed by cocktails. Our dinner is served to the lilting sound of the piano whilst we cruise to Sa Dec.

Day 3: Sadec - Tan Chau (B, L, D)

After breakfast on board, we go ashore and take a guided tour of this quaint city of Marguerite Duras. First we visit the old house of Huynh Thuy Le’s now known as The Lovers Museum, then meander through the local markets along the paved river banks. Next we visit the ancient Pagoda and the Chinese deities at the Fujian Temple. We also pass by the school where Marguerite's mother taught and view the home of Marguerite from across the river bank. At the end of our excursion we return to our boat for lunch and continue our relaxing cruise to Tan Chau whilst we enjoy an interesting session on Vietnam History - The Past & Present. Tonight we enjoy the daily cocktail hour and briefing before proceeding to the restaurant for dinner with pianist performance.

Day 4: Tan Chau and Border Crossing (B, L, D)

Following breakfast on board, we are transferred to small boats to visit a floating fish farm. We navigate along the tiny tributaries where stilt houses are haphazardly leaning on one another before going ashore to enjoy a city tour of Xe Loi. Interesting stops will be made at a traditional silk making factory and rattan mats and slippers making factory. We return to the boat and at midday, we cast off for the Vietnamese/Cambodian border for port and immigration formalities. Lunch will be served and we commence border-crossing procedures.

This afternoon we will participate in a seminar session on Indochina - The Past & Present. We later commence the second part of the journey into Cambodia, making our way towards Phnom Penh. We enjoy the first night in Cambodia with a delicious dinner and piano performance.

Day 5: Phnom Penh City tour (B, L, D)

Following a buffet breakfast we embark on a guided tour of Phnom Penh. We travel around by motor coach/bus to visit the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum returning to the boat for a re-energizing power lunch. In the afternoon, we prepare for the second part of the day’s excursion by again boarding our motor coach/bus to visit the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng (S21) Detention Center. This excursion ends in the late afternoon and we return to our boat to meet our guide for cocktails and briefing. Dinner is served on board, followed by a special Khmer folk performance at the Saigon Lounge. We end the evening with a piano performance.

Night cruise to Kampong Cham.

Day 6: Kampong Cham (B, L, D)

Morning we are met by our guides and transferred to explore Watt Hanchey, a hilltop pagoda overlooking the Mekong. Return to the boat and cast off for Kampong Cham, enjoying lunch before going ashore. The upland regions near Kampong Cham are rich in timbers, including Ceylon ironwood, rosewood, bean trees, teak, and rubber trees. Visit 12th century Angkorian temple of Watt Nokor and Cheung Kok Eco village. Cocktails and briefing at night, followed by dinner with piano entertainment. Night cruise to Kampong Cham.

Day 7: Tonle River - Kampong Chnang - Tonle Lake (B, L, D)

Morning we take a quintessential river excursion through the floating houses to get a glimpse of the local way of life in the Tonle Sap River. Moor safely along the banks and go ashore and enjoy a leisurely walk through the city and stroll around local markets. Return to our boat for lunch and a lecture on Cambodia - The Past & Present.

Tonight a briefing and farewell cocktails are hosted together with a piano performance.

Day 8: Siem Reap – Disembarkation (B)

Enjoy breakfast onboard before we reach Siem Reap. Bid farewell to the crew and guides and disembark to take motorized boats to a local jetty approximately 5 to 6 km away from the middle of the lake. Transfer to motor coach/bus to Le Meriden Angkor Hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore. Tour concluded.
