  • Morning
After breakfast, your Vietnam Cambodia holiday starts when private tour guide picks you up and takes you on a full-day discovery tour of the remains of an ancient civilization that once ruled much of Southeast Asia, the Angkor Temples. Below are the recommended sites, but of course, your guide will be happy to modify the list based on your

    Visits:
    - Bayon – the incredible maze of corridors, gothic style towers and magical central temples with 1200 meters of the finest bas relief, depicting scenes of everyday life in 12th Century Cambodia is sure to impress
    - Royal Palace
    - Terrace of the Leper King
    - Baphuon
    - The temples of King Jayavarman VII, reputedly Angkor’s greatest king. The fortified city of Angkor Thom which he built at the end of the 12th century is enclosed by a square wall 8 meters high, with five 20 meter long monumental gates decorated with stone elephant trunks.

    Afternoon
After lunch and a brief rest to avoid the mid-day heat, your tour around Angkor continues.

    Visits:
    - Ta Prohm Temple, a temple half overrun by the Cambodian jungle and famous as the film location for “Tomb Raider”
    - Angkor Wat – the best known and most breathtaking of all the sights in Cambodia, and a highlight of any visit to the Angkor complex. Originally built as a funerary temple for King Suryavarman ll in honor of Vishnu, this temple is unique as it faces west, symbolically, the direction of death. It is a very grand and imposing structure, but its most stunning feature is the extensive and intricately carved bas reliefs, which stretch throughout the galleries and inner temples.

Your tour will end with a sunset panoramic view of Western Baray and Angkor Wat from the top of Phnom Bakheng Hill. On returning to your hotel in Siem Reap, the rest of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure.

You will also visit Neak Poan, an artificial circular island with a Buddhist temple built on it, in Preah Khan Baray. Built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, it was originally designed for medical purposes (ancient wise-men believed that soaking in these pools balanced the elements of a person’s body, thus curing ailments and diseases). It is one of the many hospitals that King Jayavarman VII built. The site was built in the second half of the 12th century, and is supposedly the spot where the King fought a crucial battle against the Cham.

  • Morning
After breakfast, your private tour guide will pick you up and take you to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible underground tunnel network constructed by the Vietnamese resistance fighters during the long struggle for independence. This vast network of tunnels played a huge part in the Viet Cong’s victory over the Americans, allowing them to control a large rural area surrounding HCM City. The tunnels are a sobering insight into the dedication of the Viet Cong who lived almost entirely underground in the narrow and claustrophobic tunnels, for up to 10 years! Today, some of the remaining tunnels have been opened to tourists, offering a unique insight into what underground life must have been like during the ‘American’ war.

At the Cu Chi Tunnels, you will watch a brief introductory video, followed by a walk through the reserve. If you are feeling brave, you can crawl inside the Cu Chi Tunnels to experience how difficult life must have been, and discover the 3 underground levels. There will also be a chilling exhibition of the traps and weapons used against the American GI’s.

After the visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels, you will visit the Tay Ninh Holy See, about a 1½ hour drive away, and watch a Cao Dai service. Tay Ninh is home to the unique Cao Dai sect, whose patron saints include Joan of Arc, Victor Hugo and Winston Churchill, to name a few. The religion is an odd mix of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Christianity.

    Afternoon
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before returning to HCM City (travel time approximately 3 hours). The rest of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure.

“Thank you Indochina - wonderful tour”

My husband and I joined by two friends recently toured Vietnam for 12 days - what an incredible experience it was . I spent many hours surfing the web looking to a decent tour operator in Vietnam who could put together a program that suited our needs. I found Lam at Indochina Pioneer to be extremely professional and knowledgeable and produced a wonderful tour covering all the highlights we requested and at a very reasonable price. The hotel selection was terrific and his tour guides in each city were friendly and very informative. we travelled from the Mekong Delta in the south up to SaPa in the north , including HCMC , Hoian, Hue, Hanoi and loved every part of it, especially the people . I highly recommend Indochina Pioneer to make your dream holiday to Vietnam a reality. Thank you Lam

“Vietnam and Cambodia Customised Tour ”

Whatever you read about Indochina Pioneer , all I can say is that anybody who gives them a bad review must need their head examining .

The 15 day tour they put together for me and my 2 friends was absolutely fantastic and Ruby , who looked after us made sure that it was crammed full of interesting activities with friendly and knowledgeable guides , high quality vehicles and great hotels .

Also , the price for the entire trip was unbeatable including internal flights daily breakfast and lunch most days plus dinner on the Halong Bay and Mekong Delta stays .

The hotels were all 5 star rated and apart from one noisy room in Ho Chi Minh City , we had no complaints .

I will recommend using Indochina Pioneer to whoever I talk to about visiting South East Asia .

It was such a fantastic holiday and everything went like clockwork thanks to Ruby .

In a very short time we have visited Cambodia and Vietnam. We had 4 tour guides, all of them were fantastic. Knowledgable, polite and ready for your wills. If you ever would like to visit Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam, do not look anywhere else, the right address is "Indochina Pioneer".
