You will arrive at the docks around midday, and you will board a traditional wooden junk boat for a relaxing and unforgettable cruise around the breathtaking and unique limestone mountain islands. A sumptuous local seafood lunch will be served as you cruise this spectacular bay.

    Afternoon

Following the cruise, you will visit the Imperial City, a listed UNESCO site – Hue was the ancient capital of Vietnam from 1802 to 1945, under the reign of the Nguyen dynasty. The city is considered a living museum with many historical monuments, imperial tombs, pagodas and temples that educate us on the history of the last feudal dynasty in Vietnam.

Note: if you prefer to skip the bike ride, you can always request a replacement mode of transportation by motorbike or private car.

Afterwards, you will visit the nearby Thanh Ha Pottery villages, the only source of identical bricks, tiles and floor slabs as those in the by-gone era, for restoring the old buildings in the Old Town.

  • Morning
After breakfast and check out, your private tour guide will pick you up and take you to Da Nang airport for a short flight to Ho Chi Minh City (HCM City), previously known as Saigon.

Upon arrival in HCM City your private tour guide will take you to the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible underground tunnel network constructed by the Vietnamese resistance fighters during the long struggle for independence. This vast network of tunnels played a huge part in the Viet Cong’s victory over the Americans, allowing them to control a large rural area surrounding HCM City. The tunnels are a sobering insight into the dedication of the Viet Cong who lived almost entirely underground in the narrow and claustrophobic tunnels, for up to 10 years! Today, some of the remaining tunnels have been opened to tourists, offering a unique insight into what underground life must have been like during the ‘American’ war.

At the Cu Chi Tunnels, you will watch a brief introductory video, followed by a walk through the reserve. If you are feeling brave, you can crawl inside the Cu Chi Tunnels to experience how difficult life must have been, and discover the 3 underground levels. There will also be a chilling exhibition of the traps and weapons used against the American GI’s.

After the visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels, you will return to HCM City. Lunch will be at a local restaurant en route.

    Afternoon
After checking in to your hotel, the rest of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure. We suggest you visit the Ben Thanh night market and do some fun shopping.

    - Reunification Palace (the former Presidential Palace), where the war officially ended on April 30th, 1975 when tank 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of the home of the President of the Republic of Vietnam
    - War Remnants Museum, highlighting the suffering of the Vietnamese people during recent conflicts – not entirely unbiased
    - Notre Dame Cathedral, considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Vietnam. It was built in the period 1877 – 1880 by the French architect Bourad.
    - General Post Office (GPO), noted for its neoclassical architecture, designed and constructed by the famous architect Gustave Eiffel

The rest of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure.

  • Morning
After breakfast and check out, your private tour guide will pick you up and take you on a 2 hour drive to Ben Tre town, the heart of the Mekong Delta. The Mekong Delta, popularly known as the “rice bowl” of Vietnam, is famous for its vast rice fields, orchard farms, coconut trees, numerous waterways and beautiful landscapes.

At Ben Tre town, you will embark on a motorized boat trip on the scenic Ben Tre River exploring the coconut villages and observe various local industries along the way. You will see how bricks & sleeping mats are made, as well as visit a coconut workshop to see where the local delicacy of coconut candy is produced, and a range skillful crafts made of coconut husk and fiber products. You will also take a walk along the village lanes, visiting local homes to try dry fruits and sip on honey tea while enjoying a local Tai Tu music show.

You will then switch out the motorized boat for a small sampan to cruise through palm-fringed back canals, gliding peacefully along the hidden waterways surrounded by an immense variety of tropical plants. The quiet, rural setting is a welcome and restorative retreat to the frenetic buzz of HCMC.

Back on land, you will sit in the back of a motor cart (xe loi), passing by rice and vegetable orchard farms and meet locals on the way. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, after which you will be driven back to HCM City (travel time approximately 2 hours).

    Afternoon
Mid-afternoon, you will be driven to HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat airport for a short flight to Siem Reap, as your travel itinerary takes you from Vietnam to Cambodia. For the Cambodian Visa on Arrival, please make sure you have 1 passport sized 3 cm x 4 cm photo and $30 for the stamping fee. After going through customs, your private driver will pick you up at the Siem Reap airport and take you to your hotel to check in.

After breakfast, your private tour guide will pick you up and take you on a full-day adventure discovery tour of the remains of an ancient civilization that once ruled much of Southeast Asia, the Angkor Temples. Below are the recommended sites, but of course, your guide will be happy to modify the list based on your

    Visits:
    - Bayon – the incredible maze of corridors, gothic style towers and magical central temples with 1200 meters of the finest bas relief, depicting scenes of everyday life in 12th Century Cambodia is sure to impress
    - Royal Palace
    - Terrace of the Leper King
    - The temples of King Jayavarman VII, reputedly Angkor’s greatest king. The fortified city of Angkor Thom which he built at the end of the 12th century is enclosed by a square wall 8 meters high, with five 20 meter long monumental gates decorated with stone elephant trunks.
    - Ta Prohm Temple, a temple half overrun by the Cambodian jungle and famous as the film location for “Tomb Raider”

    Afternoon
After lunch, you will explore Preah Khan, in Preah Khan Baray. This was built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, and was originally designed for medical purposes (ancient wise-men believed that soaking in these pools balanced the elements of a person’s body, thus curing ailments and diseases). It is one of the many hospitals that King Jayavarman VII built. The site was built in the second half of the 12th century, and is supposedly the spot where the King fought a crucial battle against the Cham.

    Evening
Following your visit to Preah Khan, you will visit Pre Rup, where you will enjoy the view of the sunset from the top of the pyramid-shaped temple. Later, your guide will take you back to Siem Reap, and the rest of the evening will be yours to explore at your leisure.

  • Morning (pick up at 5:00am)
This morning, you will watch the sun rise at the Angkor Wat Temple. Your private tour guide will take you to Angkor Wat, where you will have your breakfast whilst enjoying the view. After breakfast, you will spend the morning exploring Angkor Wat, considered by many as an architectural masterpiece of the Cambodian Ancients.

    Options:
    - if you wish to sleep in and avoid waking up at 5:00 am, you can start your day later in the morning
    - you can have your breakfast at the hotel before heading out for the sunrise if you prefer

Leaving Angkor Wat, you will visit the 10th century capital of Koh Ker (travel time approximately 2 hours). While there are known to be over 200 temples within the boundaries of this ancient city, only 96 have been discovered thus far. You will spend the morning at Prasat Thom, much of which is partially buried. Although the number of visitors varies daily, they are always low, and it will be very likely that you will have the entire site to yourself. At the far end of Prasat Thom, there is a towering pyramid, somewhat reminiscent of Mayan or Incan architecture.

    Afternoon
On the way back to Siem Reap, you will stop to explore Beng Mealea, similar in size to the better-known Angkor Wat (both were built by Jayavaram VII), though not nearly as frequently visited. Completely swallowed by the jungle, and with minimal restoration work, it is easy to imagine the difficulties early explorers must have faced when discovering these temples for the first time.

Back at Siem Reap, the rest of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure.

“Thank you Indochina - wonderful tour”

My husband and I joined by two friends recently toured Vietnam for 12 days - what an incredible experience it was . I spent many hours surfing the web looking to a decent tour operator in Vietnam who could put together a program that suited our needs. I found Lam at Indochina Pioneer to be extremely professional and knowledgeable and produced a wonderful tour covering all the highlights we requested and at a very reasonable price. The hotel selection was terrific and his tour guides in each city were friendly and very informative. we travelled from the Mekong Delta in the south up to SaPa in the north , including HCMC , Hoian, Hue, Hanoi and loved every part of it, especially the people . I highly recommend Indochina Pioneer to make your dream holiday to Vietnam a reality. Thank you Lam

“Bay to Angkor”

Have just returned from a wondrous trip through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Not one to like group tours I found Indochina Pioneer and more importantly Kara.
From the basic private itinerary of 'bay to Angkor' she helped us tailor an itinerary to suit our needs.
From the moment we walked out of the arrivals hall, we were greeted by our guide with a brightly printed welcoming sign with our name on it, we were looked after for our every needs. Itinerary changes to suit, never a problem. The 4 Star Hotels were above expectation. Tour guides knowledgeable without being into too much detail as some are.
Car and driver clean and comfortable. Sites and activities wonderous. Halong Bay boat luxurious, views and meals exceptional. An amendment to the itinerary substituted a private cruise up the Mekong Delta in a luxurious Sampan the Cai Be Princess with 3 crew to look after our needs. Staying overnight in the Ancient house. As well as stops on the way to see very interesting 'idustries' , floating markets, a 4 course home cooked meal was made by the young lady in attendance. Visits to the many temples in the Angkor area were organisedd I miss the tour groups. The guide knowledgable, taking us to the best sites.
This is a trib and organisations to be highly recommended. Ask for the 'Mirabello' itinerary

“Vietnam and Cambodia Customised Tour ”

Whatever you read about Indochina Pioneer , all I can say is that anybody who gives them a bad review must need their head examining .

The 15 day tour they put together for me and my 2 friends was absolutely fantastic and Ruby , who looked after us made sure that it was crammed full of interesting activities with friendly and knowledgeable guides , high quality vehicles and great hotels .

Also , the price for the entire trip was unbeatable including internal flights daily breakfast and lunch most days plus dinner on the Halong Bay and Mekong Delta stays .

The hotels were all 5 star rated and apart from one noisy room in Ho Chi Minh City , we had no complaints .

I will recommend using Indochina Pioneer to whoever I talk to about visiting South East Asia .

It was such a fantastic holiday and everything went like clockwork thanks to Ruby .
