DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrival Hanoi

Upon arrival at Hanoi airport, you are welcomed by our tour guide and transferred to the hotel downtown. The rest of the day is free to explore the city.

Day 2: Hanoi City Tour (B, L)

Hanoi, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is also known as the ‘Paris of the East’ and dates back one thousand years. In the morning, we set off for the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Friday & Monday) as well as his former residence between 1954 and 1969. In the same complex is the famous One Pillar Pagoda which was built in 1049 under the reign of King Ly Thai Tong. It was once the official symbol of Hanoi. We will then continue on to the Temple of Literature, constructed in 1076 during the Ly Dynasty. It functioned as both the Temple of Confucius and the former National University of Vietnam.

We then drive to Hoan Kiem (Sword Restored) Lake to visit Ngoc Son Temple. Our lunch will be served with a Hanoi specialty called ‘Cha Ca’ at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we drive out of the city to Hanoi’s newer areas. We’ll stop to visit the Museum of Ethnology where we can learn about the diverse culture of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups and their lifestyle. Later in the afternoon, we will attend a performance of the traditional art of Water Puppetry before enjoying a short cyclo (rickshaw) tour through the street maze of the Old Quarter.

Day 3: Hanoi – Halong (B, L, D)

After breakfast at our hotel we depart Hanoi for Halong City. We wind our way through the green and peaceful Red River Delta to the legendary Halong Bay. There are plenty of photo opportunities of the Vietnam countryside throughout this ride. Upon arrival at the docks, we board our junk boat to cruise Halong Bay with a delicious seafood lunch being served on board.

Enjoy stunning views of the Fighting Cock Islet, Finger Island and bask in the sunshine of this magnificent place. After lunch we’ll stretch our legs and take a short walk to explore Sung Sot Cave. Once we descend to our boat, we’ll proceed to Ti Top Beach where we can enjoy a swim or more hiking up to the islet’s summit for panoramic views of the bay. A seafood dinner will be served on the boat. We finish our day with optional squid night-fishing before retiring to our cabin for a good night’s sleep. Overnight on junk boat.

Day 4: Halong – Flight to Hue (B, L)

This morning we rise to the sounds of Halong Bay and take a sampan boat to visit Luan (tunnel) Cave with thousands of limestone islands surrounding to be discovered. We then return to our boat to check out and enjoy another meal on board while our captain takes us through the formations on our way back to port. At the pier our awaiting driver will take us directly to Hanoi airport, and snacks will be provided. On the way back, we’ll also make a stop at the ceramics village of Phu Lang, to learn about the art of pottery. From Hanoi airport we’ll take a short flight to the central city of Hue. Upon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel for the night.

Day 5: Hue City tour (B, L)

Our tour starts with a boat trip to cruise the romantic Perfume River on board a Dragon Boat. We’ll make a visit to Thien Mu Pagoda, where we can enjoy great views of the Perfume River and surrounding areas. Thien Mu Pagoda is considered the symbol of Hue, and of Buddhism in Vietnam. This time we head out for the countryside and drive to visit the most beautiful tomb in Hue: the tomb of King Tu Duc. We will enjoy a delicious vegetarian lunch prepared by the nuns of a Buddhist Monastery before returning Hue City for a short guided tour to the Royal Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City.

Day 6: Hue – Hoian (B, L)

We depart Hue; driving south to the merchant town of Hoian. A quick stop for coffee will be made at Lang Co beach before we climb the Hai Van (Sea Clouds) Pass. Once we reach the peak, we can have a wonderful panoramic view of the peninsula city of Da Nang below and the surrounding areas. We’ll make our way down to the coastal Da Nang, where we’ll stop at China Beach and the Marble Mountains.

We will then continue on to the old charming little township of Hoian. Upon arrival, we check in to our hotel and have lunch at a restaurant beside the river. After lunch we commence a walking tour of the World Heritage site which includes the Chinese Assembly Hall, Chua Ong Pagoda, Japanese Covered Bridge and Phung Hung Old House. Here between the 17th and 19th centuries, Hoian was a thriving international trading port. Nowadays Hoi An still retains the feeling of centuries past and its fascinating characters. Hoian is also famous for its tailoring shops. Later this afternoon we can visit the tailors to get some clothing measured up. Overnight in Hoian.

Day 7: Hoian (B)

Today is a free day in Hoian. You can spend this day exploring this historic town either on foot or by bike; soak up the atmosphere of this fascinating historic town and enjoy yourself. Taking a bike ride to Cua Dai beach is also a great option.

Day 8: Hoian (B)

Another free day to relax in Hoian.

Day 9: Hoian – Danang – Saigon (B)

We are free until we are transferred to Danang airport for your connecting flight home. End of our service.
