    Visiting;
+ Banteay Srei: A favourite site of most visitors. The special charm of this temple lies in its compact size, remarkable state of preservation, and the excellence of it decorative carvings.
+ Banteay Samre: With its rose-colored sandstone walls, decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs, which are among the most accomplished Angkor has to offer.

We continue to visit the fabulous Ta Prohm embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers.

  • We start on our tour on bicycles, or you choose to travel by private car. We will cycle for 45 minutes to the world heritage areas, on the roads less travelled. We will ride through parts of the jungle and pass local villages and shops. Today we will explore some of Angkor's most beautiful temples.

We start from the West Gate of Angkor Thom – undiscovered by most tourists.
The sites in this complex include:
+ The ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century)
+ The South Gate, Bayon Temple- unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 serene stone faces jutting out from the upper terrace.
+ Baphuon temple, built in the mid 11th Century, lying just to the north of Bayon, and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
+ The Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, built at the end of the 10th Century, and styled as a three tier pyramid.
+ The Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King

After returning to the hotel you will have time to rest before this afternoons tour.
    Lunch is on your own.

Mid-afternoon we continue on to the most famous temple: Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat became a World Heritage Site in 1992, famous for its beauty and splendor. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology.

We end up our day with an Elephant ride up Bakheng Hill to visit Bakheng Temple and enjoy a beautiful view of the sunset.

After returning to the hotel. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

  • This morning we transfer to Siem Reap airport for a short flight to Sihanouk Ville.

Upon arrival we will be picked up by a private driver and driven to our hotel for check in. The lovely beaches of Sihanouk Ville are some of the most unspoiled in all of South east Asia. There are some 10 km of beach stretching the whole length of the town and dozens of small islands just a short boat ride away, which make for a perfect tropical getaway, with facilities for swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving. This free day will provide an opportunity for you to relax, sunbathe, or enjoy the various water sports on these beautiful beaches.

    Meals included: breakfast
    Overnight in Sihanouk Ville hotel.

    image Sihanouk ville
  • We head out by boat this morning for an exciting trip to the best of the many islands lying offshore from Sihanouk Ville. You will be taken to Koh Russei, also called Bamboo Island (transfer time 1 hour). Upon arrival we will take a short hike through the forest across the island. Then we will have time at leisure on the fine beach in the North of the island, which is still pristine and lined with Casuarina trees. Activities here include sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming or just relaxing!

    Meals included: breakfast, lunch
    Overnight in Sihanouk Ville hotel.

  • This morning we depart Sihanouk Ville for Phnom Penh.  Phnom Penh the city retains its traditional Khmer and colonial charm. French villas along tree-lined boulevards remind the visitor that the city was once considered the gem of Southeast Asia. Recent political changes have triggered an economic boom of sorts, with new hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs springing up around the city.

On arrival we will take a guided tour, visiting the cities major attractions.

First we visit the Royal Palace compound built in 1866 by the Predecessors of King Norodom, one of the most impressive and colorful Khmer-style Palaces. Nearby the Royal Palace is the Silver Pagoda (The Emerald Buddha Temple), displaying many Buddha Statues decorated with diamonds, emeralds, gold and silver. We will also visit the Independence Monument which was constructed in 1954 after Cambodia took their country back from the French.

Move on to National Museum, the distinctive red building with beautiful Khmer architecture and built in 1917. It contains more than 5000 art objects made of sandstone, bronze, silver, copper, and wood.

We end up our day by visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. The site is a former high school which was used as the notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from its rise to power in 1975 to its fall in 1979. Tuol Sleng means "Hill of the Poisonous Trees". Tuol Sleng was only one of at least 150 execution centers in the country where as many as 20,000 prisoners were executed.

Returning to the hotel for our last night.

    Meals included: breakfast
    Overnight in Phnom Penh

"Thank you Lam"

We are both well thank you. We are still a bit tired from the overnight flight we had from KL to Adelaide but that will pass.
Ann and I were both thoroughly satisfied with all aspects of the trip. All of the  guides and drivers throughout were excellent as was our accommodation.

Each city and town had its own special charm and we particularly liked the temples of Angkor, Hoi An and Luang Prabang  and the boat trips on  the Mekong and Halong Bay were special. The whole trip was most enjoyable.

I have attached the questionnaire which Tommy gave us on leaving Hanoi.

We would certainly be interested in what you have to offer for a trip to Burma, particularly if it has the same format as we had in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

We have told everyone what a good job you have done.

Regards,
