DETAILED ITINERARY

(N:B): Please note that all of our trip are privately designed. So that price includes the following hotels, activities, and transport, and visits to attractions are by private car and guide unless otherwise stated. Your guide will pick you up from lobby of your hotel in the morning. The guide will confirm the pick-up time the day before. If you prefer to start next day's trip earlier or a little later, please feel free to tell your guide.

Day 1: Hanoi (B)
Upon arrival in Hanoi, our guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel.

Day 2: Hanoi –Sapa (by overnight train) (B)
In the morning we visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex including the One Pillar Pagoda, the former leader’s house on stilts and his Mausoleum. This is followed by the Temple of Literature, site of Vietnam’s oldest university and the impressive Museum of Ethnology. In the afternoon we watch a performance of the renowned Water Puppet Theatre before heading to the train station to board the overnight train to the former French hill station of Sapa (App 8hrs).

Day 3: Sapa (B)
We arrive early in the morning at Lao Cai train station near the Chinese border and transfer by road to Sapa (approx. 45 minutes). In the afternoon we have an excursion to the village of Ta Phin set in a valley where there is the chance to meet some of the local ethnic minorities such as H'mong and Dao, each with their own separate costumes and characteristics. We spend an hour or two strolling through the villages before returning to Sapa by early evening.

Day 4: Sapa – Ta Van millage (Ethnic minority home-stay) (B, L, D)
Today we embark on an exhilarating 5-6 hour trek through the Muong Hoa River valley, stopping en route at Lao Chai village for lunch and then continuing on to Ta Van village, home to the Zay people live. This is where we will spend the night as guests of a local family. Our accommodation will be basic but comfortable in a dormitory style sleeping arrangement complete with bedding and mosquito nets. Day 5: Sapa – Hanoi (by overnight train) (B)
After breakfast, we say goodbye to our host family and walk to a nearby village (1-2 hours) where our bus will be waiting to return us to Sapa. Free until we take the winding road back to Lao cai station to catch the overnight train to Hanoi.

Day 6: Hanoi - Halong Bay (L, D)
We arrive back in the capital in the early morning and transfer directly to Halong Bay with an interesting stop at a charity centre en route. Upon arrival at the bay we board our sailing junk to visit some of islands and limestone caves before anchoring for the night. Dinner is served on board. Stay overnight on Junk in Halong Bay

Day 7: Halong Bay – Hanoi – (by overnight train) (B, L)
In the morning we continue to explore the vast bay stopping at Man's Head Island and Tortoise Island as well as Luon cave via a sampan. After an early lunch on the junk our bus will return us to Hanoi where there will be free time until we take the overnight train to Vietnam’s former Imperial capital Hue (Approx 13hrs). Stay overnightt on train.

Day 8: Hue (B, L)
Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel where there is an optional breakfast. In the afternoon board our dragon boat along the Perfume River as we make our way to the Thien Mu Pagoda and the tomb of one of Nguyen Emperors, Tu Duc. Later we have the chance to see how incense sticks and traditional conical hats are made.

Day 9: Hue – Hoian (B)
This morning we tour the Forbidden Purple City, former home to the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 – 1945. Afterwards we drive (approx. 4 hours) to Hoian via the dramatic Hai Van Pass and China beach which was home to American GIs during the war. After checking in to our hotel in Hoian we have a fascinating guided walk through the historical Old Quarter.

Day 10: Hoian (B)
Free day in Hoian to do some sightseeing or perhaps some retail therapy – Hoian is renowned for its tailors shops. Here you can have made to measure suits, dresses and more created within the day! Alternatively you can relax on nearby Cua Dai beach. Stay overnight in Hoian

Day 11: Hoian (B)
A full free day to enjoy Hoian.

Day 12: Hoian – Fly to Saigon (B)
Departing Hoian we drive to Danang (45 min) and take the short internal flight south to Saigon. Here there is the option of exploring this bustling city by cyclo visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, The Rex Hotel, City Hall, the colonial Post Office, and Ben Thanh Market. Later we stop at the Reunification Palace and the moving War Remnants Museum to find out more of Vietnam’s turbulent past. Stay overnight in Saigon

Day 13: Saigon – Cu Chi tunnels and Cao Dai Temple (B, L)
In the morning, we dive heading northwest of Ho Chi Minh to visit the Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnels were mainly constructed in the American war and used by the Viet Cong. Upon arrival at the historical relics of Cu Chi, we watch a brief introductory documentary and then enjoy a sightseeing consisting of 2 walking on uneven mud paths through the bush. We also have a chance to crawl through some of the tunnels. Quickly after that we are transferred 1hr (60km) to Tay Ninh to the Cao Dai Temple and watch most of the Cao Dai service. This will tell us of a strangest religion in the world. We drive for lunch a simple local restaurant. In the afternoon, we drive 3hrs (100km) back to Saigon. Stay overnight in Saigon

Day 14: Day trip to Mekong Delta (B, L, D)
Leave Saigon and drive for roughly 2-3 hours in to the lush Mekong Delta. At the town of Ben Tre we board our covered, wooden boat to explore the canals and waterways of the Delta where we can experience the local cottage industries of this area. Have lunch in a local orchard farm and then get back to the dock. We drive back to Saigon. Tonight we have a farewell dinner in a Vietnamese restaurant.
