Nelumbo lutea

Flower of purity and lightness

 which literally means white lotus, has the scientific name of Nelumbo lutea. It is a species of flowering plant of the Nelumbonaceae family and often grows in lakes, swamps and flooded areas.

In Vietnam, as a symbol of Buddhism, the white lotus represents intelligence and purity, as well as spiritual lightness. This flower is also mentioned in many poems. The lotus has been recognized as the national flower.
