A Lanna cultural fair in Phrae

The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Phrae Office will host the Phrae: The Charm of Lanna Heritage Fair, which will take place in front of the city hall from 9am-10pm, on September 1 and 2...

The event will feature exhibitions on HM the King's work, local culture and rituals, as well as art performances and music, sale of local handicrafts, cooking demonstrations, exhibitions, photo contests and knowledge sharing forums.

A boat race in Phichit

Phichit's provincial authorities and private sector, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Phitsanulok Office will host the 2011 Annual Boat Race on the Nan River in front of Wat Thaluang, Muang district, on September 3 and 4.

The race usually attracts famous boat racing teams from all across Thailand. The winner will obtain His Majesty the King's trophy.

It also features the simulation of a royal barge procession and other activities to celebrate HM the King's 84th birthday, as well as the sale of local products, free concerts and 3D movies and a takraw competition.

Air fare deal during Ramadan

Oman Air, the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, is offering promotional fares during the holy month of Ramadan. Those who travel on Wednesday and Sunday in August can buy a round-trip economy class ticket between Bangkok and Muscat at the starting price of 15,000 baht and between Bangkok and Bahrain/Doha/Dubai/Abu Dhabi at the starting price of 11,950 baht.

Those who travel on Sunday in August will receive special fares for round-trip economy class tickets on the Bangkok-Dar es Salaam/Zanzibar route at the starting price of 18,000 baht. These prices are exclusive of airport tax and fuel surcharge. Booking and ticketing can be made until August 31.

A cultural excursion to Prachin Buri

The Siam Society will host a one-day trip to a museum, temples and archaeological sites in Prachin Buri province on September 4.

The group will visit the Prachin Buri National Museum, Sra Morakot Emerald Pool, Si Mahosot Ancient Town and more sites, mostly related to Hinduism.

The museum boasts objects found at Si Mahosot and other sites dating to the Dvaravati and Ancient Khmer periods, as well as Sawankhalok ceramics and other pottery found in the sea. Sra Morakot Emerald Pool was an important Khmer reservoir during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, while Si Mahosot Ancient Town at Tambon Khok Peeb was built in the Dvaravati period in the area covering about 700 rai.

Situated by the Prachin River, Prachin Buri _ a farming province in the Eastern Region _ was an important port and trade centre at least from the Dvaravati period and later under Khmer rule. There is archaeological evidence of human settlement in the surrounding area since the Neolithic period.

A contribution of 2,050 baht for members and 2,250 baht for non-members is requested.

An adventure race on Koh Samui

The Ibis Koh Samui Trophy 2011 International Adventure Race, supported by Ibis Hotels, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and two tourism and hotel associations, will start and finish on the Bophut beach on Samui Island, Surat Thani, on September 17.

The race will include running, cycling, kayaking and swimming under two divisions _ Adventure (easier course) and Extreme (longer course). Teams of two racers will be divided into: Men, Women, Mixed, Masters Men (over 80 years combined) and Grand Masters Men (over 100 years combined).

It is expected to attract 100 teams worldwide, including Asian Champions from Asia Pacific Adventure team, Chiru Endurance team from Hong Kong, top Asian teams and last year's winners Saman Gunnan and Seree Ruansiri.
